Product Design | Graphic Design & Visual Communication

In 2016, SpaceX softly landed a rocket returning from orbit, enabling cost-effective Earth–Space transport. Meanwhile on Earth, digital farming promises to feed the world. And emerging technologies like virtual/augmented reality advance what is possible in space travel: Now even small teams can handle complex tasks in orbit and beyond.

While mankind struggles with the blue planet, one strategy for survival is diversification. How do Designers envision our better futures? Student teams from Product Design / Graphic Design & Visual Communication programs designed a holistic Mars Experience, featuring visionary products or services, and rounded off by a marketing campaign, branding, launch and distribution strategy.

The Experience has four phases, each with own design opportunities: On Earth, the decision leave Mars is formed (Clean Choice). After separation from their habitat, candidates experience space travel (Fine Flight). Arrival on Mars concludes the experience, ideally leading to successful settling and a permanent stay. (Wonderful Welcome / Enjoyable Everyday)

On our journey to new shores we were supported by Archimedes Exhibitions, Stiftung Planetarium and Hannes Nützmann on behalf of BCG digital ventures.
