Before an interior can be designed, it must be understood. The MA Interior Architecture/Interior Design advances students’ creative, technical and critical skills, emphasising the history and context of existing spaces as the foundation for design. The program equips graduates with advanced knowledge to develop their unique position within the discipline. In Germany, the protected title “Interior Architect” requires relevant BA and MA qualifications and registration with the Chamber of Architects.
Study Interior Architecture/Interior Design in Berlin
Across two years, students develop the personal and professional knowhow to practice at an advanced level, building disciplinary knowledge through design and research at every stage. The first year builds on the interiors expertise students already bring, through studio projects, research seminars and a fast-paced charrette, alongside courses in construction, visualization, lighting and acoustics and professional practice. In the second year, students apply and deepen their acquired skills further with studio projects, research seminars and another charrette, punctuated by courses in communication, furniture design and exhibition design. In the final semester, students take a critical and self-directed position to complete their Master Thesis and Master Thesis Design Project on a topic of their own choice.
