Architecture & Design

The "Haus der Statistik" ("House of Statistics"), a former East-German government building, is the site for a case study for new forms of municipal and public co-administration. The task was to open the building to the inhabitants of Berlin in order to facilitate information exchange and to encourage individual participation in all aspects of urban planning and city development.

Felicia Schneeweis creates large, fluid spaces for exhibition and discussion, preserving much of the original structure. The roughness and use of construction site elements such as scaffolding generate an ambience of ongoing work in progress and therefore creating a symbol of the building's function.
