MA Interior Architecture/Interior Design

Apply advanced spatial thinking for interior environments. Students deepen the creative, technical, and critical skills developed at BA level. The program supports graduates in applying responsible design solutions across interior architecture and interior design, while exploring how physical and cultural contexts shape spatial practice. Interior Architecture is a protected profession in Germany. Relevant BA and MA degrees plus registration with the Chamber of Architects are required to use the title “Interior Architect".

Program Outline

The first year of the MA Interior Architecture/Interior Design program provides students with various design and research opportunities. An advanced visualization class and two fast-paced real-life design charrettes push students to employ and hone the full range of their professional skills. Design and technology electives allow students to deepen their knowledge in a chosen field. The second year provides more design and research opportunities and the elective Theory and Communication. In the final semester, students apply and deepen their acquired skills by completing a master's thesis and a master's design project on a topic of their own choice.

Key Information

The MA Interior Architecture/Interior Design program is a consecutive option for applicants with a previous degree in Interior Architecture/Interior Design. It builds on existing BA-level skills and enables students to develop advanced technical expertise and a deep understanding of interiors within cultural, social, and spatial contexts.

Graduate Outcome

Graduates of the MA Interior Architecture/Interior Design program are prepared for careers in design offices, architecture firms, agencies, cultural institutions, or independent practice. Combining practical and theoretical knowledge, they can navigate evolving professional challenges with creativity and responsibility.

In Germany, qualified graduates may register with the Chamber of Architects to use the professional title “Interior Architect.”

Admission Requirements

The MA Interior Architecture/Interior Design program is a consecutive program for graduates of Interior Architecture/Interior Design. Applicants need a Bachelor’s degree in Interior Architecture/Interior Design.

Applicants are required to submit the standard MA application documents, including

  • High school diploma certificate with transcript
  • University certificate with transcript
  • Official English or German translations where required
  • Proof of English language skills at CEFR level B2 or above
  • CV
  • Letter of motivation
  • Portfolio PDF with a maximum of 10 works from previous studies and/or professional experience in interior architecture

German language knowledge is not required for this English-taught program.
