Design spaces that shape how people live, work, and interact. In the BA Interior Architecture/Interior Design program, students learn to create sustainable design solutions across different spatial contexts. They explore how environments, users, and inhabitants interact, preparing them to build an international design practice.

Study Interior Architecture/Interior Design in Berlin

Program Outline

The first year of the BA Interior Architecture/Interior Design program provides students with a broad foundation in basic design skills, material and interior construction fundamentals, visualization skills, and a historical framework. In the second year, students deepen their construction knowledge, tackle interior design projects, learn about building services and lighting, and theoretically reflect on the discipline of interior architecture. During the third year, students collaborate with peers from other programs on an interdisciplinary design project to develop a tailored design solution for a real-life client. In addition, they complete an internship and hone their research skills. During the last semester, students apply and deepen their acquired skills by completing a bachelor thesis and a bachelor design project with a topic of their own choice.

Graduate Outcome

Graduates of the BA Interior Architecture/Interior Design program may work on the creation and alteration of a variety of spaces in numerous settings. These may range from residential and office spaces as well as hospitality and gastronomy settings to event spaces, theater and film sets, retail environments, and public spaces.

Possible career paths may lead to (interior) architecture and interior design practices, cultural institutions, production companies for film, TV and theater, exhibition design studios, furniture manufacturers, or freelance work.

Interior Architecture is a protected profession in Germany; professional experience and registration with the Chamber of Architects are required to use the title “Interior Architect”.

Admission Requirements

To apply for the BA Interior Architecture/Interior Design program, applicants need a German Abitur / Fachabitur or an equivalent international qualification. Foreign qualifications must meet the equivalence criteria set by the German Central Office for Foreign Education.

Applicants are required to submit:

  • Passport
  • High school diploma certificate with transcript
  • Official English or German translation if documents are issued in another language
  • University certificate with transcript, if applicable
  • official English or German translation, if applicable
  • English language certificate at CEFR level B2 or above
  • Portfolio PDF

German language knowledge is not required for this English-taught program.
