Professor of Interior Design, History and Theory of Architecture and Design

Architecture

Carola Ebert was born in Berlin. She studied architecture (TU Berlin, 1998) and architectural history and theory (Bartlett, UCL, London, 2001), ran her own architecture studio (1999-2006) and worked for different German universities including Universität Kassel, TU Berlin, TU Stuttgart, Universität der Künste Berlin and Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin. Her doctoral research on the architecture and cultural history of the West-German modernist bungalow 1952–1969 was adapted for the documentary Bungalow (arte/HR 2021).

Prof. Dr. Ebert is editor of Theorising Interior Architecture and Design (Routledge 2026) and author of numerous publications on interior identity and reuse. Her research focuses on subject-specific approaches to design research, reuse theory and interior representation. She has been visiting professor at the Royal College of Art, London, UK, (2019/20) and Francqui Professor at the Universiteit Antwerpen, Belgium (2025/26).

At Whitecliffe, Carola Ebert teaches theory, research seminars and design projects on the interior Bachelor and Master programs. She has served as the Dean of the Faculty of Architecture and Design, as Head of Program for both Interior MA programs, and as Chair of Research Commission and Ethics Commission.
