FAQ

If you have studied before you may consider applying for the recognition of your previous qualifications towards a degree with us. Berlin International will grant credits on an individual basis for prior learning gained from vocational, professional, technical or online courses, or from a university degree. 
We will fully evaluate any previous coursework, while also giving you the chance to be part of our community and enjoy our program contents, projects and learning approach. 

We differentiate two types of transfer: Transfers into a higher academic semester and Acknowledgement of individual courses. See below for detailed information on each of these transfer types.

Transfer into a higher semester

You are welcome to apply as a ‘Transfer Student’ into a higher semester. To be considered as such, you will need to meet our general admission requirements for the desired program. Please refer to the relevant information on this website. In addition, you will need to have studied at least one academic semester of full time studies, within the same degree subject and level, at an accredited university. 

Our courses are run on annual basis with 1st, 3rd, 5th and 7th semester courses in fall, and all others in the spring semesters. Transfer students may start into either semester depending on the compatibility of previous studies with our curriculum. 

The following documents must be submitted in addition to all above mentioned:

• All university transcripts showing your courses, grades and credits earned
• Your degree certificate, if applicable
• Official module description (syllabus) of your previous study program showing all courses with detailed explanation of their content, credit hours and type of examination.

All documents must be submitted in their original language, with an official translation into English or German, if applicable.

The application process is as follows:

• We will determine if you meet the admission requirements for the desired program.
• Upon confirmation, we will ask you to pay the registration fee of 300,00 EUR for EU or 750,00 EUR for Non-EU applicants. This is non-refundable.
• Once the payment is received, you will receive the ‘Transfer Request Form’ for your program and need to select the courses you want acknowledged. 
• You will send it back to us along with your official university transcripts and official syllabus/ module descriptions of the selected courses.
• Applications for any of the architecture and design programs will then have to pass a portfolio review. The portfolio needs to reflect all skills gained during the successful study time that is requested to be acknowledged. 
• A faculty member will fully evaluate your request to transfer courses.
• You will receive an interview invitation to discuss the transfer request, and, if applicable, application selection questions.
• You will receive the result of the transfer evaluation and selection process.
• The final decision about your credit acknowledgment is subject to the approval of the Examinations Board of the prospective faculty.

The application process is as follows:

• We will determine if you meet the admission requirements for the desired program.
• Your application will go through the selection process.
• If accepted, you will receive an offer.
• Once you have signed the contract and paid for the first instalment to confirm your offer, you will receive the ‘Potential Acknowledgement Form’ for your program and need to select the courses you want acknowledged.
• You will send it back to us along with your official university transcripts and official syllabus/ module descriptions of the selected courses.
• A faculty member will fully evaluate your request and you will receive the results of which courses can be recognized, or not. This process should not take longer than 4 weeks.
• The final decision about your credit acknowledgment is subject to the approval of the Examinations Board of the prospective faculty.

Our Dual Up Program with the Bahçeşehir University Istanbul allows graduates of Bahçeşehir to come to Berlin to continue their studies and earn a German qualification in the same subject.  This involves studying at our Berlin campus for a minimum of two semesters.  We offer the Dual Up program in the subjects of Business Administration, Architecture, Interior Architecture/ Interior Design and Graphic Design.
