Studio Visit of the artist Patrick Thomas

On a snowy Thursday morning in November 2023, lecturers Anc Ciechanowicz, Anna Bernhardt and Barbora Demovičová accompanied third-semester Graphic Design and Visual Communication students on a studio visit of a graphic artist Patrick Thomas.

Originally from Liverpool, UK, Thomas has lived in Berlin since 2011 and has a studio in Neukölln. In addition to his work as an artist and designer, he is also a professor of visual communication at The State Academy of Fine Arts Stuttgart.

The students got insights into Thomas’ creative process, explored some of his most prominent commercial and self-initiated projects, and got to discuss topics such as getting their work out into the world and harnessing the power of collaboration with other creatives.

Having just accomplished the mid-term presentations for their team projects on the topic of “Punk & Participation”, the talk and Q&A session with Thomas was both a pleasant break and a source of inspiration for the rest of the semester.
